Unjustly Incarcerated for 34 Years, Bill Kuenzel Dies at 60

William Ernest Kuenzel passed away on February 19, 2022 following a long battle with cancer, bringing to a close his decades long struggle to prove his innocence and clear his name from a wrongful conviction.

His death at Holman Correctional Institution in Atmore, Alabama was confirmed by his attorney, David Kochman.

“Billy’s legacy will be his indomitable spirit of perseverance and positivity,” said Kochman. “Undeterred by the circumstances of his confinement, his beautiful spirit rose above to invigorate and inspire every life he touched. ‘If Billy can do it, then so can I’ is a touchstone that will endure as a wellspring of strength.
